Help!
Dilemma
although I sort of decided i wanted preliminarily to go to Cornell…a part of me and a big part of my dad…wants me to go to Chicaog – cuz he doesn’t know what I can get out of Human Ecology. and I dunno if my reasons for choosing Cornell – i.e. good food and i know people…are too… trite/stupid/immature.
Cornell Applied to College of Human Ecology – Not sure what that is Can take most of your own combinations of courses. Rural Setting – Nice but may be boring (4 hours away from New York and like 1.5 hours away from da next town.) Not too many famous alumni…except the eX-president of Taiwan which everyone seems to hate Acceptance Rate– 29% (For da PrIDe) Other ppl might go from KGV…won’t be totally alone Student/Faculty ratio : 9:1 (so high!) Enrollment: 13,725 (so many ppl!) Quality of life rating : 78 No WEB space! How scanky is that?
(kinda big???¡Kbut can sleep in class)
| Chicago Does not make you choose you major – I can take econ if I want, which is the best in the world, although I’ve never taken econ at all and dunno if I’m good at it. Core Curriculum– Makes to take a bit of everything Urban Setting – No Boredom (5 minutes away from downtown Chicago)
74 Nobel Laureates – more than ANY other US university (yes…more than Harvard & co) Acceptance Rate– 41.5% Noone else going from KGV. Student Faculty ratio : 4:1 (so low!) Enrollment : 4,236
Quality of life rating : 71 They give you WEB space
(whoa! So small! Forces you to wake up and contribute!) |

Well to be honest kay I was kidding when I said my main reason to go to cornell is cause others are going there…uni is a good chance to meet new people right? 🙂 the ex students that came back advised us to stay away from any kgv’s in the first month or so just so that you can experience new friends…
But seriously though, although I didn’t apply to chicago it looks like chicago is better than cornell by a long shot from the table. But cornell is supposedly higher ranked.
Good luck on making your choice 🙂
I’d pick Chicago because of its high reputation for econ and its nobel laureates, plus the boredom-free urban area.
cornell is an ivy thou.. i dunno, i am like ‘obsessed’ wit that fact. but could u possibly transfer to another college within cornell//
i dun really know anything abt chicago
lol this reminds me of GCSE Eng Lang.. when you have to write an essay explaining your choice of either A or B
I’d choose Chicago because from what you’ve written I don’t see much good points about Cornell at all

If good food and people you know are really the only reasons for your choice of Cornell, then perhaps…erm…you should go to Chicago? I’m sure Chicago will have good food & that you’ll find tons of nice people there.
From your description, Chicago does seem a better university – as in the attention you get, and the quality of education…but…Cornell is an Ivy (according to Liwen)…so…hm…
(sorry that didn’t really help much – but in the end, just follow your gut instinct -what’s best for you! Just make sure you get “your money’s worth” – quoting Henwood!)
: ) *take care.
Right now you have an abstract list of figures and facts, but where are you getting this from? If it’s a prospectus, it’s largely a channel for advertisement.
I’d recommend actually talking to ex-KGVers who have gone to either and see what they think since they’re actually there, and they know what it’s like. Adrian and Angela can be immensely helpful for starters. If you’d like their email addresses, just ask me. 🙂
(Oops. That was Patti btw, so don’t go asking Hugh!)
Which one do u like….I would choose cornell since I don’y know anything about eco….hehe. Most important is to choose the one u like =]
Remember it is entirely your choice.
If you force me to give you advice, its Chicago.
I dont know much about universities.. well at least not as much as you guys do, but I do know something.
DONT choose which university to go to just cause your friends are going to that uni. (That was the advice we were given for GCSE option evening. DONT choose the subject just cause your friend is doing it.)
Dont choose the university just because the its better than the other one..
DO CHOOSE the university you think is GOOD for you!
Go to Chicago cause you dont have to choose your major yet.. haha
Good luck
