Lipstick Jungle

Haven’t been this affected by a TV show in a long time. Ya, the series is over now, and I only began to watch it about a week ago.  I don’t even remember why I began to watch it; maybe it was briefly mentioned in a cosmo article or the sorts. Back in 2007, when it first aired in the US and I was still religiously reading “People”, I remember I had wanted to watch its rival “Cashmere Mafia” instead. (In part due to dislike of Brooke Shields).

Anyhow, once started, I couldn’t stop. These powerful women have everything they could possibly hope for -  a successful career, drive, and beauty, and yet despite their success in the workplace, they still struggle to find love and companionship. 10/10 for romance.  Sadly there were only 20 episodes in total, due to this wonderful show supposedly “not being able to find an audience”. I think it IS somewhat hard to acheive super-high audience levels with this kind of show; it predominately caters to the working women type, which already is less than half of the potential TV demographic.

The writers strike of 2008 again cut short its first season run. Fortunately it survived the axe in the first season and got a second season run. In part, although I adore the show so much, I’m kind of glad it ended where it did – had the show gone on I’m sure the writers would have much to write about the Wendy/Shane and Nico/Kirby relationships – I predict a divorce for Wendy and definately Nico and Kirby will encounter many more problems. In a way the current ending point allows for much imagination – and romantiziation – of these struggling relationships. At least this way in my mind, they will always be together.

I don’t hate Brooke Shields anymore! But definately after this show I have fallen in love with Kim Raver… she emits an aura of beauty and professionalism. I hope she gets more big screen roles as well as more successful TV runs. Sincerely hope that her next pilot, “Inside the Box” on ABC, will take off!
