Watching Mr. Leatham’s memorial service helped me conjure some memories that I didn’t know I had.
I remember that back in Year 7, I did not really appreciate his sense of humor. I now remember that one time I tried to give him a present and he played the “repeat what I said” game with me. I was so frustrated! as I had genuinely wanted to get some other sort of feedback.
But thinking back, it was a memorable time. I feel sad that I did not really learn to give him more credit for the way he shaped my life.
His memorial service was touching. Am glad that the school was able to stream it so all the alumni around the world can pay tribute to him. And I still remember every word of the school song!
Honaste ante Honores.
I’ll admit. I hate Federer(was too good for an aging Agassi in the twilight of his career). and I don’t particularly like Nadal (killed off my Agassi in his last wimbledon ever.)
But I do love their Rivalry. Its kind of like the old Pete Sampras vs Andre Agassi battles, such different styles of play, such different characters, yet embedded in that on-court antagonism is a deepfound respect – two great players, having made so much sacrifice for the game they love… that is what I love about the game of tennis – its not really about teamwork, but about personal skills and mental perservance. You can really get to know the heroes on the court by just observing how they play and how they react to wins and losses, how they grace their center stage.

Back to Federer. The underdog for Roland Garros. The only grand slam that has eluded him to date, coming from a period where he is not playing his best – on a surface that has not been known as his forte.
And he made it! 6th man ever to win the career slam… Golden slam, even.
He got his trophy from the wonderful man whom I adore, the 5th man to win the career slam…

Those tears in his eyes, just show such true emotion.

What a wonderful moment. Only flaw… if only his opponent could have been Nadal…
I think i might start watching Tennis again.
Grats champ!
